what is nimba?
Spearheaded by world-renowned Guinean dance master Youssouf Koumbassa, Nimba is a nonprofit partnership working to promote Guinean dance culture and renewable energy solutions. We believe that cultural conservancy, performing arts, and development of renewable energy resources create a platform for local and sustainable economic growth that can improve everyday reality for Guineans.
Nimba is dedicated to developing sustainable energy solutions in Guinea while preserving the vital dance and music traditions of Guinea's people.
Our vision is to establish the Nimba Center for Arts & Sustainable Energy, a dance and music training facility, artist retreat, performance space, and home base for renewable energy & education projects at our site in the beautiful, lush landscape of Bentouryah, just outside the capital city of Conakry. We need your help to make our vision a reality.
When completed, the Nimba Center will serve as a central space where a new generation of dance & drum teachers can be trained to protect and promote their cultural history, and where foreigners and locals alike can go to study and experience Guinea dance at its source.
Nimba believes that access to electricity is a basic human right, and in a place like Guinea, renewable energy solutions are not only desirable, but absolutely necessary. Last year, we teamed up with solar energy experts to install a photovoltaic (PV) array at Bagatai, Youssouf's current community arts compound, and Nimba plans to continue to design educational programming that will promote renewable energy as a sustainable solution to help meet Guinea's energy needs. Check out our project here.

we are seeking donations to continue the first phase of construction of the nimba center
This past winter, thanks to the wonderful donations from our global community, Nimba broke ground at our land in Bentouryah and began construction of a perimeter wall. We are so excited for this tremendous progress towards our goal, but we need your continued support to keep our projects going! Our ongoing projects include finishing the perimeter wall, digging a well, and putting a roof on our two existing structures. Your support is integral to our success. Donations in any amount can be made safely by clicking here. For other ways to donate, please contact us at [email protected].
It is urgent that construction for the Nimba Center continue and we keep up the exciting momentum we've started. Youssouf invites his entire global community of dancers, drummers, students, scholars, and friends to join him in this effort to give back to his amazing home country. Your donations will be an invaluable contribution to Youssouf's efforts in working for Guinean dance, music, and people both abroad and at home.
